LPU Women's Basketball 2022-23 Season Preview

San Dimas, CA - Life Pacific University's Women's Basketball team enter the 2022-23 season, returning their entire roster from last season. In 2021-22, the Warriors finished their season with an overall record of 1-24 and were 0-18 in the GSAC.  Following the COVID opt out year, the 21-22 season was positioned to be a rebuilding season, with 5 of their 7 players being freshman.  The season was headlined by their victory over Bethesda University on January 20th, in which LPU won by a final score of 59-37.  With the addition of 5 newcomers, the Warriors will look to build on their win total and secure a position in the GSAC tournament.

As they enter the 2022-23 season, they return notable starters from last year, led by sophomore, Rachel Spinosa, who was led the Warriors in scoring with 11 points/game.  Other notable starters that are returning from last year include Bryanna Felix, Mikayla Murphy, Keiara Barton, Nataly Cruz, and Caylyn White.

The returners are joined by a recruiting class of five newcomers:

  • Julianna Sanchez is a 5-4 transfer point-guard.  She is joining LPU after playing for Victor Valley College last season.
  • Serinity Thomas is a 5-7 freshman guard.  She joings LPU, after playing her high school basketball career at Los Osos High School.
  • Faith Harris is a 5-7 freshman forward, who is joining LPU after playing high school basketball at Upland High School.
  • Gianna Pritchett is a 5-8 freshman forward.  She is joining LPU from Tuscon, AZ, where she played her high school basketball at Cholla HS.
  • Isabela Rodriguez is a 5-8 senior forward, who is re-joining the team after red-shirting her freshman year at LPU.

LPU kicks off their season this Wednesday, in an exhibition matchup against UC Santa Barbara.  UCSB enters the season as #2 in the Big West pre-season rankings, setting the matchup to be a great test for the young LPU squad.  They have another two games later this week as they take on Antelope Valley and Northern New Mexico in the Pioneer Classic, located at the University of Antelope Valley.  Their schedule features multiple non-conference matchups against local NCAA DIII, SCIAC, opponents as well as NAIA opponents from the Cal Pac.  The conference schedule poses to be rigorous and competitive as it always is, with multiple GSAC programs having high national standing in the pre-season.  The GSAC pre-season rankings will be released on 10/26/22 at 12pm and can be located HERE.

Kyler Kennedy enters his first season as the Head Coach of the program, looking to build a competitive GSAC team for years to come.  When asked to share his thoughts about the upcoming season, Coach Kyler stated, "We are extremely excited to get the season underway.  This year, we are focusing on our standards that we set for ourselves.  We are focusing on the process and all that goes into it, regardless of the results.  This year is about consistently building habits of champions on and off of the court.  By doing this, the results we are striving for will come and we will build a healthy foundation for this program that will be longstanding.  Go Warriors!"
