Warriors Win Home Opener Against NCAA DIII Occidental College

San Dimas, CA - On Saturday evening, the Warriors faced off against NCAA DIII opponent, Occidental College, in a pre-season matchup.  The Warriors controlled the pace of play, which would prove to be the determining factor in the matchup, as they took the victory by a final score of 67-56.  With the win, the Warriors improve to 2-1 on the season.  Their next game will be on the 8th of November as they host SAGU (AZ) at 7pm.

Going into the half, the Warriors held a narrow 5 point lead over Occidental.  The third quarter proved to be the determining factor in the win, as they outscored their opponent 22-9 in the quarter.  Occidental was able to make a late push, thanks to some timely shooting in the fourth quarter, but the run would not prove to be enough.  LPU completed the victory by a final score of 67-56.

LPU was led by sophomore guard, Rachel Spinosa, who finished the game with an extremely impressive stat-line.  She finished the game with 25 points, 15 rebounds, and 6 assists.  On the season, Spinosa is at an impressive average of 20 points/game.  Mikayla Murphy had a fantastic game for the Warriors, finishing with 16 points and 6 rebounds, while also commanding the paint on the defensive end.  Julianna Sanchez continued her consistent play, finishing the game with 12 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals.

When reflecting on the team's victory, Coach Kyler Kennedy stated, "The ladies played together tonight, resulting in this win.  So proud of how they battled and did not back down.  We were the aggressors tonight from the jump and I'm so proud of our energy and togetherness.  Rachel was a stud for us and is showing why she will be one of the best guards in the GSAC.  Getting one step better every day!"
