Spinosa Records First Ever 20-20 Game in LPU History
San Dimas, CA - On Monday evening, the Warriors faced off against the Bethesda University Flames in a pre-season non-conference matchup. The Flames entered the matchup with an overall 0-7 record on the season. LPU controlled the game from start to finish, securing their 3rd win of the season by a final score of 80-67. With the win, LPU improves to 3-6 on the season and 0-1 in the GSAC.
The Warriors scored a season-high point total for a quarter, as they erupted for 33 points in the 2nd period. This run came from Bryanna Felix and Rachel Spinosa, as Felix hit 5 three-pointers in the 2nd quarter alone and Spinosa controlled the game on all levels. LPU won the 2nd quarter 33-20 and led at the half 51-33. Although the Flame made a late run to cut the Warrior lead to 10, LPU was able to endure and came out victorious by a final score of 80-67, thanks to timely baskets from Felix, Julianna Sanchez, and Keiara Barton.
In Monday's matchup, Rachel Spinosa made LPU history, being the first Warrior to ever record a 20 point/20 rebound game. This also came in a game where she almost finished with a triple-double as her final stat-line was 23 points, 21 rebounds, and 8 assists. Bryanna Felix was lethal on the scoring front as she finished with 25 points, 5 rebounds, and 2 steals. Nataly Cruz was dominant on the glass as she finished with 12 rebounds to go along with 5 points. Keiara Barton did a little bit of everything as she finished with 6 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 assists.
When reflecting on the team's victory, Coach Kyler Kennedy stated, "I'm glad that we were able to come out on top tonight against a Bethesda team that played extremely hard. Our girls were able to sustain a late run by them, showing grit and maturity in closing out tonight's game. I'm proud of the effort and looking forward to conference play. Also, special shoutout to Bry Felix for her great shooting performance and Rachel Spinosa in making LPU Women's Basketball history with the 20/20."
