GSAC Setter and Defender of the Week: Masani and Smith Lead Warriors to Weekend Sweep

San Dimas, Calif. — Life Pacific University Athletics is proud to announce that two Warriors have been recognized as GSAC Players of the Week for their outstanding performances during competitions over the weekend. Volleyball's Marlayina Masani earned Setter of the Week honors, while Kate Smith was named Defender of the Week.  The Warriors defeated #11 The Master's University and Arizona Christian University, cementing themselves as one of the top teams in the GSAC.

 


Marlayina Masani – GSAC Setter of the Week

 

Running the Warriors' offense with precision, Masani orchestrated LPU's attack over the weekend, tallying 28 assists across two matches. She also contributed 17 digs and added 12 total kills, showcasing her ability to make an impact on both offense and defense. Against The Master's, she recorded 14 assists, 5 digs, and 2 kills in a 3–0 victory, while she put up her first-career triple-double versus Arizona Christian, which included 14 assists, 12 digs, and 10 kills, helping the Warriors secure a hard-fought 3–2 win. Her overall hitting percentage of .250 highlighted her efficiency and versatility, making her a key factor in LPU's 2–0 weekend.

 


Kate Smith – GSAC Defender of the Week

Smith anchored the Warriors' defense, recording 29 digs (.953 receiving percentage) over the weekend while also contributing 14 kills, 12 assists, and 2 total aces. She consistently kept the Warriors competitive, delivering 13 digs, 5 kills, and 2 aces against The Master's in a 3–0 victory. In the matchup with Arizona Christian, she tallied 16 digs and 9 kills, helping the team earn a narrow 3–2 win. Smith's relentless play in the back row and at the net was a key factor in LPU's 2–0 weekend, making her an essential contributor on both sides of the court.  Smith currently sits at 9th in the GSAC in digs/set (3.69) and 2nd in the GSAC in aces/set (0.55).
