Warriors Kick Off Season with Sweep Over Providence Christian

Pasadena, CA – On Thursday night, the Warriors traveled to Pasadena to take on NAIA opponent, Providence Christian. The Warriors took command of the match early and did not look back, sweeping the Sea Beggars with a final score of : 25-11, 25-18, 25-16.

The Warriors came out in the first set of the match with a chip on their shoulder, getting off to an electric start.  Early on, LPU led by a score of 9-2, thanks to kills by Audrianna Guzman and Hannah Caddow.  Their play was steadied by phenomenal passing from Allison Ayala, which allowed Lindsey Johnson to spread the ball around the net.  The Warriors controlled the entire set and eventually took it by a score of 25-11.  Guzman led the Warriors with 7 kills in the first set.

In the second set, the Sea Beggars responded to the early push from the Warriors.  Their fast pace of play was speeding up the Warriors and causing unforced errors, allowing Providence to get off to an early lead.  LPU found themselves down 12-7 midway through the second set, but they did not fold.  They eventually went on a run, as Hannah Caddow had a 7 point service run, allowing LPU to regain the lead.  Mackenzie Stewart and Mackenzie Grooms were key in the second set, providing big-time kills in situations where LPU needed an answer.  LPU went on a run and did not look back, taking the second set by a score of 25-18.

In the third set, the Warriors were able to use the momentum and get off to an early lead.  Two of LPU's newcomers, Maddie Robertson and Emma McMillan, helped provide a much-needed spark off the bench for LPU.  McMillan, a sophomore libero transfer from Montana Tech, had 4 service aces in the match, helping LPU go on their run in the third set.  Roberton, a freshman setter from Upland High School, did a fantastic job setting the hitters around the net, putting them in positions to make plays.  Eventually, the Warriors proved to be too much for the Sea Beggars, resulting in the win in straight sets.  LPU took the final set 25-16, cementing their first win of the season.

As Coach Wes Schneider reflected on the Warrior's first win of the season, he stated, "I am really proud of the girls and how they handled the challenging environment they were in.  Audrianna and Alli played some of the best volleyball we've seen all Fall, and our middles did a great job blocking.  That is exactly what we needed to get the job done.  This was a great victory to start the season, and we are looking forward to learning from this match.  We look forward to continuing to glorify Him in all of our games to come."
