Caddow Notches 1000th Career Kill in Sweep Against Hope International
Fullerton, CA – On Friday night, the Warriors traveled down the 57 freeway to Fullerton, to take on the Royals from Hope International University. LPU entered the match coming off of two tough GSAC losses. They used that as fuel to the fire, as they took control of the match early and completed the sweep of the Royals, 3-0 (25-19, 25-23, 25-19).
Thanks to a 5 point service run to start the match, featuring 2 aces by Lindsey Johnson, the Warriors took control of the 1st set early. LPU was able to build their lead all the way to 11-3, before the Royals went on a run of their own. The Warrior's defense stabilized their lead though and ultimately led to the 25-19 victory in the 1st set.
In the second set, both teams were going back and forth, point for point, with each team capitalizing on the attack. Hannah Caddow, who tallied her 1000th career kill tonight, and Audrianna Guzman did a great job at the net for the Warriors in the 2nd set, as they led the way for LPU in kills. After falling behind to the Royals briefly, 7-8 in the set, LPU took the lead and never conceded it again. The Royals were able to tie the set up later in the set at 18-18, but the Warriors defense was too much for Hope, thanks to 9 total team blocks by LPU. Mackenzie Grooms finished with 6 blocks, while Mackenzie Stewart and Caitlin Riden both had 4 blocks as well. Their stellar play at the net really allowed LPU to finish out the 2nd set, 25-23.
As they approached the potential sweep, the Warriors came out as the clear aggressors in the final set. Their consistent defense, led by Allison Ayala's 25 digs (8 digs/set), allowed for them to counter quickly on the attack and capitalize offensively. LPU got off to a hot start in the 3rd set, extending the lead to 6 points early on in the set, forcing the Royals to use both of their timeouts quickly. The Warriors were able to finish the set and complete the sweep with a 3rd set victory, 25-19. For the match, LPU was able to hold Hope International to a hitting percentage of .063, which proved to be the determining factor in the win.
As Coach Wes Schneider reflected on the Warrior's latest GSAC win, he stated, "It was a nice bounceback win tonight for us. It took a solid team effort from everyone, with multiple players coming up with key serves, digs, blocks, kills, everything! The girls were just so solid and made plays when we needed them. I'm so proud of their efforts tonight and the resiliency that they continue to show from match to match. Was awesome to see Hannah get her 1000th career kill tonight as well, which is an amazing accomplishment. Just an overall great team win."
