Warriors Win Fourth Straight, Defeating Hawks in Straight Sets

Warriors Win Fourth Straight, Defeating Hawks in Straight Sets

San Dimas, CA – On Tuesday evening, the Warriors faced off against the Hawks from San Diego Christian College.  The Hawks entered the match with an overall record of 1-10 and were 0-7 in the GSAC.  From the beginning of the match, LPU controlled the pace of play and were able to complete the sweep over SDCC.  With the win, LPU moves to 10-2 on the season and an impressive 7-2 in the GSAC.   They will look for revenge in their rematch against Menlo College on Friday evening, as the Oaks are one of two teams to defeat LPU this season.

In what would prove to be a sloppy first set on both sides, the Warriors were able to hold the Hawks to a -0.054 hitting percentage.  They did this thanks in part to three aces and three blocks, which allowed for them to keep the Hawk's attack off balance.  LPU ended up taking the first set 25-16.

The Warriors started to pick it up on the offensive side of the ball, as Audrianna Guzman and Hannah Caddow came alive on the attack.  Through two sets, Guzman had 7 kills and Caddow had 6.  Maddie Robertson continued her consistent play at the setter position, distributing the ball to multiple Warriors, putting them in good positions to capitalize.  The Warriors were able to finish the second set, 25-21.

With their eyes on a sweep, LPU came out and were the aggressors in the third set.  Freshman OH, Stephanie Mosley, subbed in and made an instant impact, captializing on 2 of her 3 swings, with 1 of her kills being the determining point in the 25-14 win.  For the match, LPU was led by Audrianna Guzman, who finished with 12 kills, while hitting an impressive .524 on the night.  Maddie Robertson averaged 7.66 assists per set, as she finished with 23 assists in the sweep.  Caitlin Riden was consistent once again on the defensive end, leading the way for the Warriors with 3 blocks.

As Coach Wes Schneider reflected on the Warrior's latest GSAC win, he stated, "It was great to see Audri have an awesome match tonight.  We needed her to step up with our offense struggling and she was outstanding.  As a team, we weathered the storm against a very scrappy team in SDCC.  Steph, Kate, and Hailee did an amazing job coming in and contributing at important points of the match.  I'm so proud of them being ready to go when their number was called, and getting it done!"
